The back-end

SYNATOM coordinates the various operations needed for the safe management of spent fuel. It is responsible for the various pieces of equipment and systems made available to the nuclear operator, which mainly consist of the intermediate storage buildings of Tihange and Doel as well as the transfer shuttles (Tihange) and the intermediate storage casks. SYNATOM also covers the operating costs of these facilities.
